I wear makeup every day (except for weekends when possible) and pretty much follow the same routine, mineral powder for coverage, blush, mascara and lip gloss.  I have my favourite products and stick to them constantly.   I have also learnt a few easy beauty tricks over the years when it comes to applying my makeup.

I always use a primer before applying any foundation or powder.  I find it helps create a flawless complexion by improving my skin’s texture.  I use Issada Canvas-Foundation Primer.  I generally use Issada mineral powder for coverage and bring out the Issada Liquid Foundation for special occasions when I need that extra coverage.  I have found my skin is so much better for using mineral products.

For my cheeks, I rotate between blush for winter and bronzer for summer.  Currently I am using Issada Mineral Baked Blush in Champagne Diamond. It has a little more shimmer than the Issada Mineral Matte Blush I have used in the past and I like to apply it with a small brush.

I love making up my eyes. I do use Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat to conceal dark circles and like to use a little hairspray on a toothbrush to brush my brows so they stay in place. (I also use this trick to keep those flyaway hairs down at the crown of your head! – looks a bit strange but it works!)  I don’t like to use as much eye shadow now as I used to when I was younger and generally stick to natural browns or purples and blend them really well.  I also use a highlighter in white or cream to the brow bone to accentuate the eye a little more.  An eyelash curler is a must and try heating it up before using it on your lashes to increase the curl.  Mascara is my little secret weapon.  I layer about two to three times when applying.  I have tried so many brands over the years but will never part with Shiseido Perfect Mascara.  It has a no clump formula that  never leaves me with racoon eyes and it wipes of easily the next day, leaving no residual.

Finally my lips.  I find that coloured lip gloss doesn’t give me the same colour as using lip stain however, they are convenient to carry in my bag to touch up.  I always line my lips before applying  lip stain then finish with clear lip gloss. Lately I have been having fun experimenting with some brighter lip stains but think a nice nude and red are good basic essentials.  Elizabeth Arden Crystal Clear lip gloss is my favourite gloss and I have been using it for many years.  It also looks great when used just on its own.

My makeup routine really doesn’t stray much from the above and I have found that the older I get the less I tend to use.  Natural with a few enhancers to bring out your features I believe is a good rule to follow.

Thanks for the hairspray on toothbrush tip. Will be giving that a go and would love to know what lip stain you use. Love your blogs by the way. Am addicted. Thanks.

Hi Michelle, I use a few different lip stains, my 3 favourites are NARS Heatwave, Chanel Rouge Allure Passion & Issada Micro Lilac. I also like to finish with a gloss, usually Elizabeth Arden Crystal Clear xx
